Wednesday Night Bible Study and Prayer Time have become an important time in the life of our church. 2 Timothy 2:15 says: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
God advises and urges His church to share His word with others and to be able to defend it. Scripture is the tool that God has given us to use and it is our calling as Christians to study it, know it, and apply it. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says: “All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
We have found that Bible Study is a crucial part in the life of our church because we, as God’s people, desperately need the nourishment and confidence that comes from studying and following God’s Word. Studying the Bible gives us the opportunity to know God as a God who is alive and well and working in our lives.
Studying the Bible helps us to know the truth. “In learning God’s truth, we have learned that we must pray and communicate with God so that the Holy Spirit can teach us. Truth is important, especially when it is God’s truth. If we study God’s word, we will know His truth and we will be able to recognize a lie when we hear one.”
Studying God’s Word allows us to be the witnesses that God has called us at Lakeside to be. God equips us with His armor (Ephesians 6:10-18) so that we can be the people that God has called us to be. We are aware of the fact that we are children of God and are only temporarily here on earth.
Our job is to represent Christ to the world and to share His saving message. “By studying His word we are able to give reasons and to prove by His Word why Christ is our hope. The word of God has set us free to discover His truth and to enjoy the freedom and peace it brings.”
